Reference to “War within: The battle for control of gurdwaras” by Naveen S Grewal (Sunday Tribune, July 6), politicians remain on the look out to appease sections of the minority communities for electoral gains. But the people should understand their designs and not get carried away. The differences on religious matters should be resolved within the community without any political interference. People's representatives should focus their attention on the welfare aspect of all citizens and not try to divide society for selfish motives.

NRIs should visit India more
This refers to the article NRIs want privileges but act as if they are superior (July 6) by Mark Tully. It is true that NRIs form their opinion based on little knowledge of reality. Such misunderstanding sometimes leads them astray, resulting in a waste of their time and money. To achieve fruitful results, they should obtain a first-hand account by visiting the places they talk about. That will preclude any chance of irresponsible interference in the country’s affairs. Due to incorrect feedback, many NRIs unwittingly indulge in supporting antiIndian activities. If they contribute amply to the prosperity of India, the government will accord them special status.
